Your First 90 Days

How you start sets the trajectory for everything that follows.

The first 90 days in a new role are critical. Impressions form quickly, expectations get set, and the trajectory of your success begins taking shape. Many men either try to prove themselves too fast or take too long to get moving. The key is balancing learning with contribution, humility with confidence, and patience with action.

Get the first 90 days right, and you build a foundation for long-term success.

The 30-60-90 Framework

Days 1-30: Learn

  • Understand the role, expectations, and how success is measured
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders
  • Learn the culture, processes, and unwritten rules
  • Listen more than you speak

Days 31-60: Contribute

  • Start adding value in meaningful ways
  • Identify quick wins you can deliver
  • Deepen key relationships
  • Begin solving real problems

Days 61-90: Lead

  • Take full ownership of your responsibilities
  • Drive initiatives forward
  • Establish yourself as someone who delivers
  • Build reputation for competence and character
Don't try to change everything in week one. But don't be invisible for three months either. The goal is earning the right to lead by demonstrating competence and building trust progressively.

Your Action Steps

Week 1: Clarify expectations with your boss in writing.

Month 1: Build at least 5 key relationships across the organization.

Month 3: Deliver at least one visible win that demonstrates your value.
