A Life of Service

The world says strength is about accumulation: power, status, control, wealth. Scripture says strength shows in service. The greatest among you will be the servant of all. This isn't weakness; it's the highest expression of power, using what you have for the benefit of others.

Service isn't about doing good deeds to feel good about yourself. It's about orienting your life around something bigger than your own comfort and success. It's about recognizing that what you have was given to you to give away.

Service at Home

Service starts in your own house. Serving your wife by putting her needs alongside your own. Serving your kids by being present and engaged. The man who serves the community but neglects his family has missed the point.

This means doing dishes, changing diapers, handling tasks without being asked. Not because it earns points, but because service is who you are.

The question isn't whether you're too important to serve. The question is whether you're strong enough to do it. Service requires more character than being served ever will.

Service Beyond Home

Church: Use your gifts for the body. Teaching, serving, leading, helping. The church needs men who show up and contribute.

Community: Your neighborhood, your city, the needs around you. Look for ways to give what you have.

Work: Excellence at work serves others. Doing your job well benefits everyone around you.

What Gets in the Way

• Pride: Feeling above certain tasks
• Busyness: Too occupied with your own agenda
• Self-focus: Preoccupied with your own needs
• Entitlement: Feeling others should serve you

Your Action Steps

This week: Do something to serve your wife without being asked. Something she normally does herself.

This month: Find one way to serve at your church or in your community. Commit to it.

This quarter: Evaluate your life for self-focus. Where are you living primarily for yourself? How could that shift?
